Reasons
for hair fall can be different; the most prevalent and commonest one is
androgenetic alopecia this is due to a
combination of factors, including hormones called androgens and genetics. Some medical conditions like thyroid disease,
uncontrolled diabetes, kidney and liver diseases, lupus, or hormone imbalance
can also result in hair loss. In modern
world poor nutrition is also one of the major causes of hair loss. Apart from this some medications, hair
styling treatment, autoimmune disorder and fungal infections can also cause
hair loss. Temporary hair loss is also
seen after surgery, anaesthesia, or delivery.
Patients with psychological disorders like trichotillomania repeatedly
pull their hair out which results in bald patches. Unhygienic scalp environment due to dust,
dirt, environmental pollutants, excessive perspiration, and accumulated dead
skin cells can also be a triggering factor of hair loss.
In Ayurveda hair loss is attributed
to excessive pitta dosha and hence in general the treatment strategy is aimed
towards reducing pitta dosha.
Pitta is increased by excessive indulgence of fried, oily, greasy, spicy, sour, and acidic foods. Apart
from these, tea, coffee, alcohol, meats and smoking can attribute towards
